    April What..brings May Flowers...

    snow

The old saying "April Showers brings May Flowers" is out the door. Wisconsin switched it up a bit with SNOW this morning. Got the show started at 5am with little flakes coming down and I thought..okay no big deal. But then we heard from travelers and listeners from Green Bay and Appleton with 2 inches on the ground, cars in the ditch and more snow on the way! Cripes. One of the Meteor heads this morning mentioned that it "wouldn't be so bad if we hadn't already had a taste of near 70 degree temps" and that's true. You get all set to mow and there's a small drift in the way...what's up with that..LOL ! Better weather this weekend ya'all!

    Tiger Time?

    tiger

Last time I featured Tiger on my blog I asked the question on how you felt about him..now that we've all heard about his affairs. I split up the comments into A)..those who don't care and don't follow golf AND B)..those who care and love golf. The reason I did that is because if you don't follow golf or Tiger..no problem when you say "I don't care..he's a pig." I expect that. But what's truly interesting is the group that followed him, loved him and now are going to watch him in the Masters Golf Tournament. I say WILL watch him because we will for sure. People who love golf will tune in and not miss it. 2 things I want to know...will the golfers who are in his group go nuts or become better golfers for being around Tiger. AND...will those who followed Tiger in the past watch him and care as much as they did before? We'll see....

    The Eeelooosive Walleye...

    walleye

Boaters are at it RIGHT NOW for Wisconsin's fav, at least one of them..the Walleye! Nekoosa even has "Walleye Days" to commemorate the Walleye being such a big deal. I was in Wisconsin Rapids over Easter weekend visiting my Aunt and Uncle and they showed me a few newspaper pics of guys who'd caught some big ones already. One was over 28 inches..can't really call it a "Pan" fish 'cause it won't fit in the pan!! Sounds like there's still more opportunities to experience Walleye Days through around April 18th. I see jigs in our future!

    Favorite Baseball Name to Broadcast...

    tom

Tom King is WIFC's superstar sportscaster. Baseball season is his favorite of all. So today I asked him "what's your favorite baseball name to say on the air?" He was stumped..didn't have an answer, but I told him to think about it..I really want to know! But he did say this about the legendary baseball broadcaster Harry Carey. Harry used to take ball player names and turn them around. Tom King, in his best Harry Carey voice, said "Ya know with Sammy Sosa...if you spell Sosa Backwards it's pronounced "ASOS." LOL!! Listen for Tom's favorite baseball name tomorrow! (photo by Dave Kallaway)

    New Play Thing...

    ipad

I can only IMAGINE the amount of blogs that have been written or are being written on the new Apple Ipad. It's crazy week since it officially comes out this weekend. My guess is if you get one in your hands that you'll want one..cripes I do already. Stacy Cole and I talked about the size of this thing because it seems rather small to get anything done, but think about it. It's bigger than that iphone and smaller than a laptop...so it's the middle thing! And for the debate of only using it for FUN..I see it differently. Photographers will put their portfolio on Ipads. When they talk to a prospective client they go "Look" and show off their photos. People who are e-mail freaks and want to blast through a lot of it..can with ease. I bet hospitals will take a look at buying a mess of these things. Why? Notice how many nurses and doctors already look at electronic tablet set ups when they come to visit you in your room. The Ipad could be loaded with medical info and linked the hospital network for even more stuff. Plus, one of the new things is the Ipad as a reader. A reader is where you store your books, magazines, newspapers. Kindles are cool, you might have heard of the Nook (Barnes & Noble), but this thing will just look cooler. So let's see how this plays out. Will you have IPAD Envy??? Or will friends say "Hey...can I look at your Ipad??"

Grooming the last of the snow...

    groomer

Walked up Rib Mountain 49 times now! Yeah!! This past Saturday I got to the very top and saw this lone groomer. Looking forward to the History Channel's new reality show called "LONE GROOMER." LOL. But hey..check this guy out. He's grooming the last of the snow and there is reportedly a bunch left. Heard that 60 runs are open and there's an 18 inch base..can you believe that?? Wow! Enjoy while you can because as you can see in my picture..he's about to run into grass...(photo by Dave Kallaway)

    Wine & Cheese Season...

    wine

We got to it, we enjoyed it, and now it's time to buy! Yes the season of Wine & Cheese events has come to a close. It made the Boys and Girls clubs a good amount of money..and man theyy need it. Wausau has a terrific one that happened a few weeks back. Friday they had the Portage County Taste of Wine & Cheese..which is set up in the John Noel Hanger at the Stevens Point Airport. I'm not sure who thought that would be the cool place to do this event..but it's perfect..Good Idea!! So NOW..it's time for the other side of these events to come to life. You're loaded with great wine and cheese info. Go buy the good stuff. Dazzle your friends and family with a fantastic red wine that goes perfect with those steaks you're grilling and an out of the ordinary cheese that you don't normally have (sorry Velveeta!). We have a lot of places to go stock up at. Try the good stuff every so often..it's the spice of life!

    The Moon Club...

    moon

I get the radio show started at 5am every morning and if the sky is right..there's always a comment from me or a listener about "hey look at the moon..whoa!" it's kind of, in a very unofficial way, become an obsession of early risers. I call it the "Moon Club." The 2 things that I've photographed the most would have to be the moon and the sun. I have a hard drive pretty much filled with moons and suns...crazy huh? And Thursday evening it's the last opportunity to see Mars right next to the moon so ofcourse I have to go capture that. If I get a good shot..you'll see it here. We'll see how it goes. I have the "moon club" updates in the 5 o'clock hour in the morning. Is there a "Mars Club" out there somewhere? LOL (photo by Dave Kallaway)

    Time to give some props....

    hair

Kim Mueller from St. Baldericks wanted to give some props for a successful shaving event this past Friday at Mosinee Elementary School..I was the MC...she says:

What a great event! We reached our goal and raised over $19,000-so cool!

Thanks to local individuals, restaurants and businesses who donated prizes, silent auction items, time and talent. Some of our new additions were: Nick from Inflate the Fun Inflatables and DJ Hollywood and Karaoke. Lee's Piggly Wiggly and River's Edge fed all the volunteers. Calandra, Michele and Brandi of Studio 306 in Mosinee held another cut-a-thon and raised $460. I can not forget to thank the shavees, barbers and volunteers.

We also honored three local children who are fighting cancer. Jordan, an amazing fourth grader at Mosinee Middle School; Trinton, an awesome kindergartener at Mosinee Elementary; and Ben, a strong ten year old, were our honorees. Having them in attendance really brought the event meaning.

    EXCELLENT KIM...KEEP ROCKIN’ THE CAUSE!

    Blue Winds Dancing...

    dancing

I used to live near the Black Hills of South Dakota. The Native American culture is HUGE out there and I used to love to go to Pow Wows. The colorful costumes, the music..are real addictive and we got a chance to see that this past weekend at the Grand Theater. I asked the group of perfomers if I could take their pictures just prior to Saturday's event. They were awesome and gracious..loved chatting with them about dance moves and what it takes to do their show. If you've never seen Native American dancing, a Pow Wow, anything like this but want to...keep your eyes open for events this summer..more to come! Thank you Blue Winds Dancing for coming to Wausau!
