Katy Perry Starts The Summer With 'California Gurls'; New Album, 'Teenage Dream,' Out Aug. 24

After scoring four smash singles off her five-million-selling 2008 debut album "One of the Boys," two-time Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Katy Perry returns to set airwaves ablaze with a scorching brand-new single "California Gurls," which ignited radio with a surprise release on May 7. The single is now available for sale digitally worldwide.

An irresistible, hook-filled clarion call to throw on Daisy Dukes and a bikini top, "California Gurls" will "melt your popsicle," Katy assures us in this party anthem of the summer. The sizzling track - a fresh evolution of Perry's witty, sassy sound - is the follow-up to her back-to-back-to-back No. 1 chart-toppers "I Kissed A Girl", "Hot N Cold", and "Waking Up In Vegas" from "One of the Boys."

The Santa Barbara-born Perry was inspired to write "California Gurls" as she watched her
friends go crazy at a party listening to Jay-Z's salute to New York, "Empire State of Mind." "Everybody was holding their drinks in the air and dancing, and I thought, 'We're not in New York, we're in Los Angeles! What about California? What about all the homies, the gin and juice, the swaying palm trees, the sun-kissed skin 24-7,'" Perry recalls. "I decided that we needed to make a response. I want people to want to book a ticket to California the first time they hear it!" And because it's practically un-American to release a song that mentions gin and juice without Snoop Dogg, Perry recruited the rap icon to contribute his inimitable vocals to "California Gurls." "We thought it would sound so cool and give the song another dimension," she says. "Snoop is as West Coast as it gets."

"California Gurls" is just a taste of what's to come when Katy unleashes her brand-new album "Teenage Dream," which will be released by Capitol Records on August 24th in the U.S. and Canada; and August 30th in the rest of the world. The album is the follow-up to Perry's blockbuster debut "One of the Boys," which has been certified platinum in the U.S. and has sold five million copies worldwide. The album spawned four smash singles, including the back-to-back No. 1, Grammy-nominated chart-toppers "I Kissed A Girl" and "Hot N Cold" (both selling more than a combined eight million copies in the US), "Thinking of You" (No. 1 Airplay in five countries), and "Waking Up in Vegas" (2.3 million sold in the US and No. 1 Airplay in five countries). Perry has sold more than 22 million singles, digital tracks, and mobile products worldwide.

  • And the artist of the decade is??

    Posted by Mike Mathers

This is quite the honor, I mean you have so many to pick from.  Beyonce, Britney Spears, Rhianna, Justin Timberlake,Pink, Jay Z just to name a few.  Thats quite a list to pick from, but Eminem gets that honor. Yes the angry yet very talented rapper, gets this accolades.  I really cant disagree, im not much of a rap fan but Eminem made me a rap fan.  He is so talented and definately deserves this title, since he really did change the face of rap.  Lets be honest when The Real Slim Shady came out, everyone was like who is this skinny white guy its not gonna work, well it definately did work.  Congratulations to Eminem, in honor of that im gonna give you a taste of one of my favorite Eminem songs and video check it out here!!

Hes back with a brand new song too off his SEVENTH studio album recovery,  Not Afraid.   Its been on the top 9 all week, and its up for voting on our top 9 page at WIFC.com!

  • Casey James what were you thinking?

    Posted by Mike Mathers

Well for me Idol was rather boring.  Dont get me wrong I respect Frank Sinatra, and all that hes done for music, but I just couldnt get into the songs.  I guess the guest host made me bored too.  I really thought that Michael Buble should have been the guest host, but thats just me.  So ive been a fan of Lee and Casey all season.  Last night to put it nicely for Casey would be a stinkfest.  Kara was spot on saying he sounded like a lamb cause watching that performance I really thought it too.  See for yourself from his performance last night!

The thing I dont get is Casey sounded so good last week, showing off his voice.  This one well you heard it, I just hope he doesnt get sent home, cause hes a very talented rocker.  Unfortunately he had hands down the worst performance of the night, so we'll see what happens.  Happy Cinco De Mayo to everyone out there, Corona sounds good after work tonight!

  • Lady Kiss??

    Posted by Mike Mathers

So im sure the title of my blog is a little confusing.  Looks whos taking some credit on Lady GaGa, the hottest band in the world KISS!  Okay so there not the hottest band in the world, anymore but they can still rock.   Look what Gene Simmons has to say about GaGa!

KissGlam rockers Kiss are taking credit for Lady Gaga's outrageous style, branding the Poker Face hit-maker a "female version" of their band.

The Detroit Rock City hit-makers admit they'd love to enlist Gaga as the fifth member of the group, insisting they inspired the 24 year old's flamboyant persona and stage costumes.

Gene Simmons says, "She's not Lady Gaga, she's really Lady Kiss. I love the vibe, the big mouth and the big visuals. She's the most exciting thing to happen since us. She's a female version of us. One of the first things we learned was to treat the audience as the guv'nor (boss). When they buy a ticket they become your boss. We just work here. She realizes that her fans deserve the best you got because they pay your wages."

He actually makes some good points, check out GaGa's style in her music video for Alejandro.

  • Scary movie anyone?

  • Worst Saturday Night Live performances!

    Posted by Mike Mathers

Ahhh Saturday night live, bringing back some memories with:  Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Dan Akroyd, Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon.  Just to name a few, thats quite the list.  Not only is it such a funny show (Well used to be) but some incredible musicians have performed on SNL.  Im sure there were a lot of good performances, but it seems more fun to look at the bad ones.  I mean the highest rated American Idol episodes, are always in the beginning, where the bad and crazy singers are.  Its like a train wreck and you cant quite turn away.  Check out this list of the worst SNL Performances of all time!

I cant disagree with Ke$ha on the list, I mean her voice was cracking so bad can you imagine what Simon would have said to her??

  • Get well Ueck!

    Posted by Mike Mathers

Definately not gonna be the same listen to the Brewers with out the legendary voice of Bob Uecker.  Hes a big reason why im a Brewers fan.  Growing up in Iowa the Brewers were never on tv unless they played the White Sox, Braves or the Cubs,  Most of the time me and my dad would crank the radio up and listen to Mr Baseball.  Unfortunately he is gonna miss the next 10-12 weeks with heart surgery.  Hes getting it done tomorrow and hopefully he has a full recovery.  Check out this classic commercial with the one, the only, Mr Baseball!!

  • And the best album of the past 25 years is?

    Posted by Mike Mathers

Before I get into the albums, first I want to say how crazy baseball can be.  So the Brewers beat up Pittsburgh outscoring them 36-1.  Then come home to play the rival Cubs and get destroyed 25 runs to 4.  Then play the Pirates again last night and bam they win 17-3, see what I mean on crazy.  So Spin magazine is doing countdowns from the past 25 years.  Check out the best 125 albums of the past 25 years here!   http://www.spin.com/spin25/125-best-albums-past-25-years#page=14  ITs amazing the memories that so many of these songs will bring out, enjoy!

Now I respect the number one artist but I just wasnt that big of a fan of them.  Heres a video though of the 2 of the greatest rock stars of all time, singing my favorite U2 song here!

Oh and one more thing get well Bob Uecker, in my opinion the greatest baseball announcer ever.  Hes having heart surgery and out 10-12 weeks you will be missed!!

  • Well the weekend wasnt a complete waste!

    Posted by Mike Mathers

So lets rewind back to Friday, im so excited cause im heading to Miller Park to see the Brewers and Cubs.  Hmmm I guess someone forgot to tell the Brewers to show up for the big rival series, guess we'll get them next time.  Had an unbelievable time in downtown Milwaukee.  Saturday night sure was rocking with the Bucks playoff game the same night as the Brewer game.  I got a taste of AUTHENTIC Mexican cuisine, for some late night food, it was so delicious, and would go back there in a heartbeat.  So another thing on my mind is the new music.  Every Monday:  Myself, Belky and Tony listen to a bunch of new songs, we added Christina Aguilera-Not Myself Tonight and Breaking Benjamin-Give Me A Sign.  Some other new tunes on the radar that im really digging are:  1.  Black Eyed Peas-Rock That Body, 2.  David Guetta ft Fergie, LMFAO, and Chris Willis-Gettin Over You, 3. White Tie Affair-You Look Better When Im Drunk, 4.  Boys Like Girls-Heart Heart Heartbreak, and 5.  B.O.B-Nothin On You.  (Just about every one of those songs are on my slam it or jam it page!)  Time to get familiar with Breaking Benjamin, heres a version of the song that really shows off his voice, acoustic style!
