My favorite holiday, was created in 1938 by the Salvation Army as a fundraiser in Chicago. This glorious event was meant to raise dollars to assist the needy during the Great depression and to also honor the women who served deep-fired goodness to soldiers during Wold War I. The "doughnut lassies".
Okay, history shmistory- whatever the historical significance of this day, doughnuts should be honored for their contributions to society in general. They have helped us survive countless morning meetings, carried us out of bed on weekends, and increased our waistlines like no other foodstuff. What would coffee be without cake? How would our local law enforcement start their day sans deep fried pastry?
So here's to you- doughnuts and the blessed bakers who make my favorite breakfast delicacy.
