Janet Jackson opened the American Music Awards with a medley of her greatest hits but the most unusual performance may have been by Lady Gaga, who used a microphone stand to break into a large glass box to get to a piano. Then, the piano started burning as she played.

Jennifer Lopez apparently had the worst performance because her lips didn't match her words while she danced in a boxing ring with six dancers. To make things worse, Jennifer fell during the dance.

Michael Jackson won four American Music Awards and made history by winning more AMAs during his career than any other artist.

MJ won favorite male artist in the pop/rock and soul/R&B; categories. His greatest-hits album, "Number Ones," also won favorite album in both categories.

Michael's Jackson's oldest brother, Jermaine, took the stage to accept two awards for his brother for favorite male soul/rhythm and blues artist and favorite pop/rock male artist.

The awards put Michael Jackson's AMA trophy total at 23, which is the most for any artist.

Beyonce wasn't there but she won favorite female soul/rhythm and blues artist.

The show also honored Whitney Houston with an International Award of Excellence. She also performed "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" from her album "I Look to You".

Taylor Swift won entertainer of the year. She was also named favorite female pop/rock artist and her album, "Fearless," won best country album.

The Black Eyed Peas performed "I Got A Feeling" and "Boom Boom Pow."

Rihanna also continued her comeback and performed a song from her new album, "Rated R".

Alicia Keys and Jay-Z did "Empire State Of Mind" and Kelly Clarkson did a version of her hit "Already Gone."
