Safe Lightning?

Was asked the other day about the dangers of photographing lightning. There are plenty. It starts with the fact that you're trying to take a picture of electricity WITH a piece of electronic gear and also being OUTSIDE when forcasters are telling you to go inside. I could rattle off all the stuff you should and shouldn't do, but I have found that people are going to do whatever they want. For me..it's exciting to try and capture lightning, but I try to be as safe as possible. This includes almost all the time staying in a car. Also..watching the storms on radar. Finding out where EXACTLY the storm is coming from and how bad it is. And one more thing..knowing when to get the heck out of the way of the storm! ((photo by Dave Kallaway))
