Elephant Graveyard

Dear Lauri,

In my dream I am flying in a helicopter looking out the window. We come to this white fenced in area that is HUGE. Inside it are rows upon rows of bleached white elephant skeletons, all perfectly lined up, filling up this whole area. At first, I'm kind of shocked/sad, but it quickly turns into curiosity/interest. How did all these skeletons get here in the first place? Why are they here? What is the story behind this? And then I wake up. – Lori 41, Salt Lake City, UT

Lauri: Looking out a window in a dream is connected to your point of view or perspective in real life. You are up high in a helicopter looking down so that tells me you have risen above something that may have once been bringing you down and now have a new perspective of things - the newness being represented by all the white that is in your dream. The elephant skeletons are issues from your past that are now dead and over with. Why elephants? It could be that they are lessons learned that you need to remember OR they represent that you now have a thicker skin because of these past issues.

Lori replies: I have recently made the decision to break with the religion of my childhood, which was quite pervasive in all areas of my life. I suspected this dream had to do with that somehow, but couldn't figure out the connections. Is there any significance to how orderly the skeletons were lined up?

Lauri replies: It could represent that particular "organized" religion is dead to you now.

Lori replies: Ah, that makes PERFECT sense. I have come to realize that organized religion is something that doesn't work for me. That I need to move on, but not forget what I have learned.
