I was bullied a few times in school...I will remember how it felt for the rest of my life.  The scars last forever.  I was bullied due to my size (4'9").  I was called names and made fun of--called a midget, had people sing that stupid "Short People Ain't Got No Reason to Live" song to me. It was painful and humiliating.  I think it shaped me and turned me into who I am today but it hurt.

I want to do something about it locally but I don't know what to do.  We get invitations to judge competitions, read books, etc--at schools.  I want to do something more than that...something that will be more than just reading a book (which is important).  It's time for this to stop.  If we don't kick this into high gear, those bullies grow up to torment people in the workplace.  It's a horrific cycle and it has to stop somewhere.  Where do I start? I'm just one person but maybe that's a good start? email me if you have ideas-I'd love to hear them... stacy.cole@wifc.com

What Is The Definition of Bullying?

A lot of young people have a good idea of what bullying is because they see it every day! Bullying happens when someone hurts or scares another person on purpose and the person being bullied has a hard time defending himself or herself. Usually, bullying happens over and over.

  • Punching, shoving, and other acts that hurt people physically
  • Spreading bad rumors about people
  • Keeping certain people out of a "group"
  • Teasing people in a mean way
  • Getting certain people to "gang up" on others
