The College Basketball season comes to an end this weekend and the baseball season begins. Despite the July like temps this weekend has always been my transition to the spring. Just the idea of having daily box scores to peruse again makes getting up that much easier. It used to be the Brewers were out of the race by the end of April but they have become a contender and should be again this year. It will all come down to starting pitching again
My picks for what it's worth
NL East- Philadelphia
NL Central-Milwaukee
NL West- Colorado
Al East-Boston
AL Central-Minnesota
AL West-Texas
High school baseball got under way yesterday...for me anyway as the Wausau East Lumberjacks took two from Adams-Friendship. I'll be bringing you East Baseball on our sister station Foxsports 1390 all season. Also my youngest son begins his senior season at Wisc Valley Lutheran/Northland Lutheran. They only won one game last year in the tough Marawood Conference but should be better this year.
By the way...I still have raffle tickets to support the Wausau American Legion baseball program. $1500 top prize.....tickets are 20 bucks. the drawing is at the annual Mothers Day pancake breakfast at the Legion. e-mail me at tom.king@mwcradio.com if youre interested. Thanks.
Nice to see that the Badger Hockey team is getting some recognition this year. Mike Eaves has been nominated for the coach of the year award and Blake Geoffrion is one of three finalists for the Hobey Baker. It might be tough for Eaves to win as RPI coach Wayne Wilson is also nominated. RPI is also in the Frozen Four next week just 5 years after becoming a D-1 hockey school. Geoffrion though is a legitimate possibility to become the first Badger ever to win the coveted Hobey Baker Trophy. Hard to believe that with all of the great players that have come through the program they have never had a winnner before.
Songs of the Day (from My Ipod)
Evil Gal Blues-Dinah Washington (1944) an early hit from one of the most popular torch singers of the 40's & 50's. Died too young at 39 of a drug overdose
Evil Ways-Santana (1969) His first hit was this driving jam with the killer hook. Here is a later live version.
