There was a time when the European nordic ski teams barely noticed the American skiiers. Team USA wasnt even given a tent to dress and apply their wax as they weren't expected to even be close to competing. Well things haave changed. Bill Demong and Johnny Spillane won gold and silver yesterday at the Vancouver games in the 10 kilometer large hill nordic combined. The Americans have now won four medals overall in the nordic combined events. Demong said the Americans accomplished their goals at Vancouver...not the least of which was getting on the radar screens of the tradional powers in nordic skiing. You won't have the Americans to kick around anymore.
The US women come up short in the gold medal hockey game. Canada won the game 2-0 and keeps the Candadian Hockey fans at bay at least until the men play. I don't think this gold medal will be enough to satisfy Canada if the men come up short.
It's probably your last chance to see Apollo Anton Ohno skate tonight. He'll go for individual gold in the 500 meters and will be one of 20 skaters competing in the 5000 meter relay. He will anchor the US team.
Poor Tom Crean. I'm sure he didnt expect his rebuilding job at Indiana to be this large. The Badgers pounded the Hoosiers for the 2nd time this season last night 78-46. It was the largest road win for Bucky since 1942!
The Pointer men & women won their WIAC Conference tournament games over Stout last night. Both teams will play for Tournament titles Saturday in Whitewater.
A bunch of Central Wisconsin Wrestlers are still alive on day 2 of the State Tournament in Madison. Congrats to the Wausau West Boys Basketball team as they clinced a tie for the Valley Crown with a win last night. The Newman girls won the Marawood South title outright. The Central Wisconsin Storm girls hockey team will play Eau Claire tonight in Medford with a trip to the State Tournament on the line.
I'll be in Wisconsin Rapids as the Wausau East girls basketball team takes on the Raiders. I'll have the game live on Foxsports1390 WRIG...pregame at 7:05...game 2 is DC Everest against Rhinelander.
Songs of the Day (from my I-pod)
Drop The Pilot-Joan Armatrading (1983) from her Lp "The Key"...one of her rockier tunes.
Drops From The Faucet-Nanci Griffith (1999) Griffith has done some of her songs on many different albums in many different styles. This was part of her classical experiment in 1999 when she re-recorded some of her classics with both her band and the London Symphony Orchestra. Some worked...some didnt.
