Kuehlman Cup Dominance

Posted by Tom King on

The Wausau West Hockey team dominated Wausau East last night 7-1 at Marathon Park to retain the Kuehlman Cup. The cup seems to have taken up permanent residence in the Warrior trophy case.  West is ranked first in the state and are led by senior standouts Mitch Borneman and Derek Knetter. They would have been a favorite to head to state even before the influx of transfers in the last year. One of those transfers, Kyle Lee, had a hat trick in last nights win. Lee is a talented offensive player who will give opponents defensemen fits. I'm not going to revisit the controversy on some of the transfers...I just hope it was all done on the up & up so that that this magical season, however it turns out, won't leave a sour taste in the mouths of local hockey fans.

I saw Keaton Nankivil play in high school when the East Lumberjacks played in Madison. Nankavil was raw then but you could see the potential to develop into a classic low post player...what I didn't expect was his talent to shoot the three. He hit seven treys last night and scored 25 in the Badger loss to Purdue. If he can pick up some of the scoring slack until Jon Leuer returns maybe the Badger guards will find their shooting touch again.

Join us for a tripleheader of high school hoops on Foxsports 1390WRIG tonight....first up the DC Everest girls & boys take on Wausau West  followed by the East boys at Rhinelander.

Songs of the Day

Don't Stop Til You Get Enough-Michael Jackson (1979) the first single from the Quincy Jones produced "Off The Wall". Jackson begins his most productive period. It looks like he's having fun.

Don't Take Me Alive_Steely Dan (1976) From "The Royal Scam" comes this dark tale which could have been written about current society. great Larry Carlton guitar work.
