28 Years And Counting

Posted by Tom King on

Saturday I begin my 28th year coaching the Wausau American Legion Baseball team. Little did my wife know that the year we got married would also start a run of 28 summers at the ballpark. I've been fortunate to have a run of excellent players, coaches and parents and am looking forward to another season. We are the defending Wisconsin state champions and should have another competitive team this year. Our home opener is Monday night...a doubleheader with Rhinelander at 5:30 at Athletic Park. Legion baseball features the best high school baseball players in the state and the Wausau Post 10 Bulldogs include players from East, West, Newman and Wisconsin Valley Lutheran. Admission is free so come out and join us. Next week also features home games with Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday and Friday at 7pm.

Carlos Gomez used his speed to help the Brewers beat the Cubs again yesterday. It's an interleague weekend with the Brewers facing a very good Texas Ranger team.

The Chucks broke out the bats last night in an 8-5 win over La Crosse. They play in Wisconsin Rapids tonight. You can hear the game on Foxsports 1390 WRIG

Are you going to watch the World Cup? I'm not a soccer guy but I may watch some of Team USA's games. It's like the Olympics for most folks...you'll watch a big international event even though you don't normally watch soccer.

Songs of the Day  (from my I-pod)

Free Man in Paris-Joni Mitchell (1974) an unlikely hit for Mitchell as she skewers the commerciality of the music business. Check out this crack band including Pat Metheny on guitar, Jaco Pastorius on bass and Mike Brecker on sax.

Free-For-All-Ted Nugent(1976) Nugent sings on this one. Title track from his second lp which also featured an unknown vocalist named Meatloaf.
