With the High School winter season coming to a close in the next couple of weeks some in the WIAA are looking at competiton issues in basketball. Associate Director Deb Hauser thinks that high school basketball in the state should have a mercy rule like some other sports do to avoid scores like 105-18 and 63-6 (both of which we've seen this year). Hockey has a running clock in the final period of a game with a 6 goal differential...soccer, baseball & softball have a mercy rule as well. some coaches don't like the idea...they use blowout games to get the reserves some playing time. I understand both points of view but I don't think a running clock in basketball is the answer. The object of sports is to compete and do the best you can. Teams that are injured or undermanned have always been around. The players on those teams know going in that the chances of winning are slight...in fact the chances of getting blown out of the building is much greater. I think you use that fact as a motivator to get better. Now I have seen teams try and run up a score....putting on a full court press when the game is safely in hand. Those coaches will say they need to keep their players sharp and they leave their starters in to build endurance for closer games down the line. I understand that as well but remember....the shoe might be on the other foot some day...even the best programs go through talent droughts. Remember karma....what goes around, comes around.

The Bucks get another signature win topping Boston last night at the Bradley Center. Bogut was huge again and don't discount what Carlos Delfino has brought to the team. Loved to see Brandon Jennings throw down on "Big Baby" Davis as well. The Bucks moved into the 5th spot and face the ailing celtics 2 more times and could face them in the first round of the playoffs. It's a long way to playoff time but I wouldnt want to play the Bucks right now.

Nick Collins wants to be a Packer. He passed up free agency to sign a one year tender offer with the Pack. Now he will make over three million dollars this year but he is risking an injury until a long term deal is signed. I think the Pack want to keep collins and will sign him to an extended deal at some point.

El Condor Pasa-Simon & Garfunkel (1970) long before he dabbled in African and New Orleans Rythmns Simon added English lyrics to an old Peruvian folk song. It became a hit.

Eleanor Rigby-Beatles (1966) a Paul McCartney tune from "Revolver" which was unique as no Beatles played instruments on the song. A George Martin directed double string quartet made this sound like nothing on pop radio at the time. McCartney would usually compose the music first and the lyrics later. For this one he picked some of the names (like Father MacKensie...from the phone book)
