The Circus Comes To Augusta

Posted by Tom King on

With Tiger Woods announcement yesterday that he will return to the PGA Tour at the Masters in Augusta (no surprise here) let the media circus prepare for the feeding frenzy. Augusta has had controversy before but I'm not sure they are prepared for the tabloid and paparazzi deluge they will see for the next few weeks. Billy Payne and the folks at the Masters may think they will be able to control this but I think they're in for a rude awakening.

The Pointer men's basketball team is leaving today for the D-3 Final Four in Salem Virginia. I talked with Coach Bob Semling yesterday and he thinks his team is playing very well and still improving. They're were alot of unanswered questions heading into this season but it seems the Pointers have answered them with a consistent performance that doesn't rely on one guy to get it done. They take on Randolph-Macon in the national semi-final Friday night. The other game is Guilford against Williams College.

The Brewers brought in Randy Wolf and Doug Davis to solidify the rotation this season and they will certainly do that. But two pitchers who were already here have seemed to grab the remaining spots. Chris Narveson and Manny Parra have both looked good this spring. Narveson is unscored upon in three starts. This should make the decision to, at the very least, banish Jeff Suppan to long relief no matter how much money he's making, very easy . Don't throw good money after bad by continuing to trot him out there every 5th day. With the Brewer offense,  a rotation of Gallardo, Wolf, Davis, Parra & Narveson can get the job done.

Congrats to DC Everest grad Chris Rutta. He was named Horizon League hitter of the week. He plays at Illinois-Chicago.

The Packer continue to look for a consistent punter. They signed Chris Bryan yesterday. He comes from the Australian Rules football League. Let's just forget the old cliche that you can find a kicker or punter anywhere. A good one is hard to find.

The Milwaukee Bucks are back in action tonight in La against the Clippers. The Bucks have started the month with six straight wins and are 7-1 in their last eight games on the road. The Bucks are 18-4 since January 27th....their best 22 game stretch since Jan-Feb 1985. Fear The Deer!

Songs of the Day- (from my I-pod)

The Entertainer-Marvin Hamlisch (1972) the award winning composer-pianist updates a Scott Joplin rag for the movie "The Sting". Good movie. Good Song.

Erie Canal-Bruce Springsteen (2006) from the Seeger Sessions comes the Boss' take on an old folk chestnut. Bruce had a great time playing and touring with this band and you have to give him credit for playing music he wanted to play that might not have the commercial appeal of his own stuff.
