The Antigo Red Robin boys basketball team begins State Tournament play this afternoon as they face Appleton East. The undefeated squad won the Great Northern Conference under coach Jesse Shaw and fans will see a familiar face on the opposite bench. John Mielke, the Appleton coach, was Antigo's coach the last time they went to State in 1995. The Red Robins are led by high-scoring senior Jordan Mach but they can also crank it up on defense.
If you want to see two of the top girls basketball teams in the state square off tonight...head out to the Wausau East gym for the D-4 sectional between Wausau Newman and Rapids Assumption. These teams are very familiar with each other so it will come down to execution.
Sleeper picks in the NCAA's today....UTEP, Northern Iowa, San Diego State. I also like Marquette, Brigham Young and Georgetown.
Scott Skiles said he would call the Bucks defense last night "awful" but he doesnt think it was that good. Milwaukee lost to the Clippers in LA. He's right when he says they have to be up every night and can take no team lightly...even a terrible team like the Clips.
I understand some of the local golf courses are open..get out today before the snow returns tomorrow night.
Songs of The Day (from my Ipod)
Even The Dog Can Shake Hands-Warren Zevon (1987) the Excitable Boy's scathing look at the music industry from his Lp "Sentimental Hygiene".
Evangeline-The Band w/EmmyLou Harris (1978) from the Last Waltz comes this beautiful tune loosely based on a Longfellow poem.
