The Pointer baseball team advanced to the D-3 World Series as they beat Whitewater on Saturday 4-3. They didnt make it easy on themselves as they lost the first game to the Warhawks and needed to win Game 2 to avoid what happened in the conference tournament the week before. Whitewater beat Point twice in that matchup but couldnt get it done this time as Joel Delorit and Scott Williams combined for the win. The eventual game winning run scored in the 9th inning on a safety squeeze bunt by Steve Considine. The Pointers start World Series play this Friday at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton against SUNY-Cortland at 10 am
The Brewers pieced together their pitching yesterday and pulled out a 4-3 win over the Twins. After the wild 12 inning game on Saturday, Milwaukee didn't have any well-rested pitchers so Marco Estrada, Manny Parra, Zach Braddock(major league debut), Trevor Hoffman (scoreless 8th inning!) and Jon Axford combined for the win. Axford made it interesting in the bottom of the 9th by loading the bases but got a couple of strikeouts to end it. The Brewers have the day off before hosting Houston on Tuesday.
The D-1 seeding meetings for baseball were held yesterday. I'll have the first round pairings later today. The WIAA Track regionals get underway at various venues including Wausau West.
Songs Of The Day (from my I-pod)
For A Dancer-Jackson Browne (1974) from his brilliant "Late For The Sky" LP comes this poetic tribute to a friend who passed away.
For America-Jackson Browne (1986) Browne was not shy about his criticism of the Reagan Administrations forays into Central America. He wrote a number of songs in this period about what it means to be an American. There is not just one definition of a "patriot"
