The Wausau East Girls Swimming program has long been one of the top teams in the state. They have advanced many swimmers to the State meet and have beaten all comers in Central Wisconsin. In fact, up until yesterday they had not lost or tied a dual meet in 7 years. DC Everest swam to an 85-85 tie with the Lumberjacks. DCE had the lead going into the final event but East was able to pull out the tie with a first and 3rd place finish in the 400-freestyle relay. Congrats to Everest coach Melissa Clay and her swimmers on a great accomplisment but somethin tells me the Lumberjacks girls will use this as motivation for the rest of the season.
A big night of high school football is on the docket. You can hear the East-Everest game on Foxsports 1390 WRIG. Since this is an Everest home game the regular voice of the Evergreens Pat Snyder will have the call but i'll certainly be there to see if East can build on their big win over Sparta last week. It will be tough but the Lumberjacks are a much faster squad and have a talented group of underclassmen who are ready to write their own story.
Other games will see Wausau West try and slow down the triple-option attack of Wisconsin Rapids...Marshfield is at Stevens Point as Spash will try and bounce back from their disappointing loss to Kenosha Bradford last week. ...also Antigo at Merrill should be a good non-conference matchup...and Mosinee at Lakeland should be a good one as well.
Well, all the pundits expected an offensive shoot-out but it was the defenses that came up big in the NFL opener last night. The Saints did just enough to pull out a 14-9 win...although they missed two field goals that would have put it out of reach sooner.
The Packers give Charles Woodson a contract extension. It's still amazing that Woodson has ressurected his carrer like he has.
Team USA has advanced to the semi-fianls at the World Basketball championships. they beat Russia 89-79 yesterday. Kevin Durant had 33. The Americans play Lithuiania on Saturday.
On this date in 1962 Rod Laver won the Grand Slam of Tennis by taking the US Open.

Songs of The Day (from my I-pod)
Glamour Profession-Steely Dan (1980) from the Gaucho LP...the final album of the original run for the band. The "glamour profession" is being a drug dealer in LA...once again an ironic look at the world from the cynical minds of Fagen and Becker.
Glad All Over-Dave Clark Five (1964) These guys were a huge part of the British invasion and actually knocked the Beatles off the top of the charts in Britian with this one. Mike Smith sings lead...Dave Clark is the drummer. This is a clip from a British show called Ready! Steady! Go!.
