The Woodchucks are one win away from clinching a playoff spot and winning the second half championship in the Northwoods League's southern division. It's been an incredible run for the Chucks in the second half especially when you relaize that they have used over 45 players this season and that only Brooks Braga remains from the Opening Day roster. They tied a franchise record with their 42nd win last night 4-3 over Wisconsin Rapids and are now 25-3 in the secpnd half. It was also the 8th walk-off win for the Chucks this season. They are getting great pitching and have hit the ball well in the second half....which helps them battle through a spotty defense. They can clinch the second half title tonight in Wisconsin Rapids as they embark on a 6 game road trip...and you can hear the game on Foxsports1390. There is one more home game in the regular season and that is this Sunday night. The playoffs begin next Monday.
The Chucks also have three former Wausau Legion Bulldogs on their pitching staff. Adam Kramer is a starter and John Roberts and the newly signed Ryan Zweck are working out of the bullpen. All have pitched well in their chances so far.
Speaking of Legion baseball...Madison won the AAA state tournament with a victory over Ashport on Sunday. Madison moves on now to the Great Lakes Regional at Midland Michigan. Plover won their first two games at the tournament before being eliminated. Plover's Clay Giese, Willie Doll & Sterling King were named to the all-Tournament team.
Ben Provisor gave his family & friends a thrill as he won his first match at the Olympics on Sunday. The SPASH grad beat Alexei Bel of Cuba. Unfortunatly he had to stop his second round match after injuring his elbow and will not medal. He did say that he learend where he needs to improve for future international matches as he looks now toward Rio in 2016.
High school fall sports rev up this week with practices starting today for boys soccer & girls golf...football begins tomorrow.
The Packers have some injury problems...none more important than starting offensive lineman Marshall Newhouse who suffeered a concussion in the Family night scrimmage. Rookie Herb Taylor worked out with the first team on Sunday. Some veterans including Aaron Rodgers got the night off. The first pre-season game is Thursday in San Diego.
Songs of The Day (from my I-pod)
Just Between You & Me-April Wine (1981) a power ballad from a Canadian band that went Top Twenty and also got played the first day of MTV
Just Crazy Love-Fleetwood Mac (1973) a great Christine McVie track from my favorite Fleetwood MAc LP "Mystery To Me". It featured Bob Weston & Bob Welch and is a really solid effort...it also featured one of the strangest album covers of all time.
