Most football fans have no idea whether or not an offensive lineman is doing a godd job. Oh, you can tell if a tackle gives up alot of sacks...but almost all of the time fans follow the ball and don't appreciate the little things that make the big guys upfront essential to a good football team. The Green Bay Packers coaches and GM Ted Thompson know the importance of a strong O-line and have sewed up four of the five Packer lineman through next year. TJ Lang is the latest signing a four year extension earlier this week. Lang started slow with the Pack but earned a spot with his play last year and Mike McCarthy now call him one of the Packers "core" guys going forward. Keeping Aaron Rodgers healthy has to be the most important thing for the team and now with a stron, solid and experienced offensive line, they are in a position to do that.
Cedric Benson says his off the field transgressions are behind him. We heard it all before from athletes who abuse the money and fame they are accorded by what they can acomplish on the field. It's a low risk move for the Pack as no bonus money is involved and Benson signed for the league veteran minimum. He has shown flashes of brilliance over the last few years and certainly the Packer running game is in dire need of an upgrade.
The Woodchucks season came to an end last night as they coughed up another late lead and lost to the La Crosse Loggers 8-7 in 11 innings. Once again it came down to a player playing out of position that cost the Chucks and allowed an unearned run to score in the ninth to tie it. Kudos to Wausau West grad John Roberts who stepped into the first base void for the final week & a half of the season and aquitted himself well. After not batting for the last year...he came up with numerous base hits including a home run in last nights game.
Denny Drake is stepping down as the coach of the Central Wisconsin Storm girls hockey team after seven years at the helm. Drake has led the Storm to 5 straight state tournament appearances and a state title in 2008. He wants to spend more time with his family and watch his daughter Hilary play hockey at UW-Stevens Point.
