Well, it was a good couple of days off. Saw some good friends in Milwaukee and caught a great concert on Monday night as Dave Kallaway and his wife Elaine joined me at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee for Donald Fagen-Michael McDonald & Boz Scaggs. Over two hours of great soul covers plus a nice selection of the hits you would expect including killer versions of Miss Sun, Takin It To The Streets & Pretzel Logic. The biggest surprise for me was Boz Scaggs. havent heard much from him lately but he sounded great and played some nice wah-wah blues guitar.
Also discovered a great sushi-Japanese resturant in downtown Milwaukee. It's called Kiku's and is on the corner of 2nd and Wisconsin two blocks west of the Riverside. I also spent a couple of hours walking around the Zoo. Havent been there since the kids were little and It was a beautiful day on Monday morning as I drove by so I thought why not. It's just as nice as I remember.
That came after another excellent BluesFest in Wausau over the weekend. Sena Erhardt and her band were awesome on Friday night and the Sugar Blue show on Saturday killed it too. They were just two of the artists that performed. If you are a music fan and are not attending this festival you are really missing out. This is a lineup that would be the envy of a big city festival and its right here on Fern Island for a great price.
I also attended the Brewer game on Sunday and they did not look good. Although Ramirez, Hart & Aoki had the day off...the offense still had Braun, Weeks, Lucroy & Gomez and couldnt muster any kind of attack at all. Braun made an error...Morgan ran into an out off third...Wolf struggled again. Did get to see a rare rain-delay at Miller Park as they we slow closing the roof. Also the Legion baseball all-star game was played right after the Brewer game.
My musical week will finish off this weekend as we head up to Bayfield on Saturday and Sunday. John Hiatt at the Big Top Chatuaqua on Saturday night. Great place to see a show and dinner at Maggie's is worth the trip alone.
No surprise that Danny O'Brien will start for the Badgers at quarterback. Somewhat of a surprise that Russell Wilson as a legitimate chance to be Seattle's starting QB. Pete Carroll is known for thinking outside the box...and I thought Wilson could be a good NFL QB...just not this fast...and possiblye beating out a high priced free agent like Matt Flynn.
Songs of The Day (from my I-pod)
Kansas City-Wilbert Harrison (1959) a Lieber-Stoller classic that's been done by lots of folks like the Beatles & Littl Richard...but this little known soul crooner had the bigh hit with it.
Karma-Alicia Keys (2005) when classical meets hip-hop you get this tasty little number from the talented miss Keys
