The Wisconsin Badgers are headed back to the Rose Bowl for the third straight year. The last Big Ten team to do that was Michigan back in the late 70's. I know, I know...you say so what, it should be Ohio State or Penn State ...I say too bad, so sad...the Badgers can only control what they do and they did what they had to to earn the trip. Not many people were giving Wisconsin much of a chance against Nebraska on Saturday night. The players were having none of that, taking a 14-0 lead before many people were in their seats. The running backs gained 531 yards running through huge holes opened by the suddenly rejuvenated o-line. The coaches brought out almost every gadget play they could think of...and most of them worked. And how could you not be excited by Melvin Gordon. Even with Montee Ball graduating it seems that Tailback U will continue to flourish. I'm already reading posts (some on this website) that says Wisconsin has no chance against Stanford...good thing they still have to play the game on the field. I'm looking forward to another interesting News Years Day!
The Packers took care of business yesterday although the O-line sustains another injury. Aaron Rodgers took some more shots on his 29th birthday and they were not alcohol related. Ted Thompson will need to scour the waiver wire and find some guys that can come in and help out the next few weeks. That being said it was an 11 minute drive that put the game away and put the Packers back in first place. Don't see many of the upcoming opponents giving them much of a game except maybe Chicago...although the Bears have a liitle Jekkyl-Hyde in the them.
Kudos to Russell Wilson who continues to show he belongs as an NFL starter. He led the Seahawks to a comeback overtime win at Chicago. The Seahawks could make some noise the rest of the season as most of their remaining games are at home...where they play very well.
The Bucks got a nice win on Saturday night and boy did they need it. They had been struggling but knocked off Boston. Larry Sanders continues to impress...he had a triple-double in the Friday night loss and came back with a double-double in saturday night's win. They are in New Orleans tonight.
The Badger basketball team bounced back from Wednesday's loss with an impressive win over California Sunday afternoon at the Kohl Center. They exploded for 81 points in the victory. Four players were in double figures led by Ben Brust with 22. They face Nebraska-Omaha on Tuesday.
I've got high school basketball for you tonight on Foxsports1390 & FM 93.9. The Wausau East Lumberjacks head to Eau Claire Memorial...pre game at 7:15 and the tip at 7:30. The game will also be available as a podcast on foxsports1390.com or wsau.com. East is coming off an exciting overtime win over Wausau West on Friday night. Cole Nelson hit a three pointer to tie the game with 3 seconds left and Conrad Felten had 10 points in the OT.
Songs Of The Day (from my I-pod)
Let It Ride-Ryan Adams & Cardinals(2005) from his album "Cold Roses". This guy should be more famous than he is...although he may be too idiosyncric for some people. This is good stuff
Let It Rock-Bob Seger (1976) Seger channels Chuck Berry in this rave-up off "Live Bullet" arguably the greatest live album in rock history. Put this on in the car and you better watch your foot or you'll find a state trooper in your rear view mirror.
