The Search Begins

Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez will have his plate full for a few weeks. At the urging of the football teams captains Alvarez will coach the team for the Rose Bowl game on New Years Day while also looking for a replacement for Bret Bielema. I'm sure that the assistant coaches will do most of the heavy lifting as the team prepares for Stanford, but the return of Alvarez to the sideline and locker room should boost the teams confidence. He of course has a track record of winning in Pasadena.

Reports also say that the search for a new coach is centering on Chris Petersen of Boise State. He would seem to be an excellent choice as right now he's the winningest coach in the Football Subdivison level at 83-8 over the last seven years. With Boise State's pending move to the Big East (which is itself undergoing an upheavel) he might be amenable to trying the challenge of the Big Ten.

The Packers welcomed back Ryan Grant yesterday and he may play as soon as this Sunday night. Grant will replace the injured James Starks. He's been out of football for three months after being cut by Washington. The Packers had released him at the end of last season.

The Bucks continue to stumble as they lose in San Antonio last night. They have fallen out of first place and return home to face Charlotte on Friday night. The Bobcats beat Milwaukee earlier this season.

Songs Of The Day   (from my I-pod)

Let's Call The Whole Thing Off-Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong(1957) These two recorded a number of excellent albums in the 50's. This is a classic Gershwin tune originally done by Astaire & Rogers back in the 30's.

Let's Dance-David Bowie (1983) The Thin White Duke embraces disco. Kind of a comeback album for him. It's dance music...but really high brow dance music :-)
