Rolling Now

Wednesday February 1, 2012 Posted 3 months, 3 weeks ago by Tom King

Don't look now but the Wisconsin men's basketball team has it rolling. Some may complain thet Penn State made the game too close last night...but that's life on the road in the Big Ten. The Badgers have won six in a row...their longest conference wiining streak since 2007-2008 and the 3rd longest current streak among the BCS conferences behind Kentucky and Marquette who have won seven. They get a good test on Saturday afternoon against Ohio State and you can hear the game at noon on WSAU.

You were not alone if you hated the Pro Bowl. Newspaper columnists and talk radio guys around the country have blasted the effort put in by the players on Sunday. Even starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers was critical of his NFC teammmates saying that he didnt see much effort and was disappointed by that. It wont matter to the NFL...tv ratings were actually up...it was the second most watched Pro Bowl in ten years.

Tom Silverstein of the Journal-Sentinel said it wasnt the same as Pro Bowls of the past he's covered like 1996 when Brett favre played all out and some players used the game to settle scores from the regular season.

Bob Costas thinks there should be a re-vote on the NL MVP award if Ryan Braun tests positive. The NBC and MLB network regular says baseball should do what football did a number of years ago and not allow any post-season honors in the same year a player tests positive for a banned substance. He also says if there is a re-vote Matt Kemp would win and said if the Dodgers had been contenders Kemp would have won anyway because he had a better year than Braun. He made the comments on the Dan Patrick Show which can be heard mornings on Foxsports1390.

Wausau West made it close but still fell short in their quest for their first conference boys basketball win of the season. Elliot Ashbeck hit a shot with 1.6 seconds left to lift Marshfield to a 42-41 win. East held off Stevens Point after Spash (the top 3 point shooting team in the conference) went 0-15 from behind the arc in the fitrst half but then hit 5 three's in the 3rd quarter. they tied the game at 39 but East prevailed 45-39.

The Bucks are 5-2 in their last seven games but face a stiff test tonight as they host Miami. They beat the Heat in Florida earlier but that was without Dwyane Wade...he's back for Miami tonight. You can hear the game on Foxsports1390 at 6:40.

Songs of The Day  (from my I-pod)

If I Fell-Beatles (1964) a great tune from "A Hard Days Night" The harmonies are excellent...back when they still got along

If I Had A Boat-Lyle Lovett (1987) from his second Lp "Pontiac" and also used in the Sean Penn-Nicole Kidman movie "The Interpreter" in 2005. One of the best concerts I've ever seen was Lyle, John Hiatt, Guy Clark & Joe Ely at the Grand Theater.
