It was National Signing Day yesterday. The day when high school athletes choose their colleges and continue their athletic dreams. A number of central Wisconsin athletes made their choices including Wisconsin Rapids linebacker Vince Biegel who is part of this years Wisconsin recruiting class.
Brent Esser and Brandon Luedke who starred with DC Everest and Wausau EAst respectively will become teammates at Minnesota-State Mankato. Sam Graff of the Evergreens heads to Bemidji State and Stevens Point lineman Ryan Ramczyk will play at Winona State. Evan Mayer of Wausau West will play football at Michigan Tech.
I had the pleasure of calling the games of Luedke and despite fighting through various injuries he was a difference maker for the Lumberjacks. When healthy he reminded me alot of Mark Zalewski who roamed sideline to sideline as a linebacker for the Jacks before starring at Wisconsin. Also Esser used his speed and shiftyness to be a difference maker as well. Alot like Derek Abney was...not big but hard to catch.
The Bucks did it again. Playing without the injured Andrew Bogut and falling behind by 18 in the first half, they rallied to beat the Miami Heat for the second time this season. Brandon Jennings had 31 for the Bucks. One of the ESPN the Magazine basketball writers suggested this week that the Bucks were one of the perennial bad teams in the NBA ...take another look bozo....this team is better than you think.
The Journal-Sentinel is suggesting that the Green bay Packers are at least a few million dollars under the salary cap. They estimate that the team has around seven million dollars plus whatever else they can free up to try and re-sign Jermichael Finley, Scott Wells, Ryan Grant and Jarret Bush.
I'll have Wausau East-Merrill hockey tonight as the second game of our doubleheader on Foxsports1390 following Everest-Spash hockey.
Songs of The Day (from my I-pod)
If I Had A Hammer-Peter, Paul & Mary (1963) originally written in 1949 by Pete Seeger ...the crystal clear voice of Mary Travers raises this above the plethora of folk songs that came out in the early 60's.
If I Should Fall Behind-Bruce Springsteen (1992) a beautiful song from the "Lucky Town" Lp. Here is a live version that should bring chills to any Boss fans out there
