What Am I Missing?

The plaudits keep rolling in for Joe Paterno this morning. The Daily Herald headline reads "A Legend Lost" as Paterno passed away yesterday at the age of 85. All I can think about are the dozens of damaged people that are out there because this "saintly man" looked the other way when confronted with the monstrous behavior of his friend and fellow coach Jerry Sandusky. As far as I'm concerned the decision to protect the program at all costs and allow a child molester access to your program and facilities long after you knew what was happening erases any positives that Paterno achieved in his long coaching career. Before you eulogize this man as a great human being and "legendary coach"...remember what he didnt do...and remember the scene in your mind of Jerry Sandusky in the shower with that young boy and the fact that he remained with the Penn State program to brutalize more youngsters long after Joe Paterno learned about it.

The Badger mens basketball team got a "signature" road win over Illinois yesterday. The Big Ten men's basketball conference has been filled with upsets this season and it should be a very interesting ride for the next month.

Don't look now but the Bucks have everybody back and are looking good. They beat the Knicks and the Heat on the road this weekend after losing their first 8 away from the Bradley Center. I watched a large portion of yesterday's win and the Bucks are a hustling, gritty bunch and when Brandon Jennings is feeling it look out. If they can keep Stephen Jackson focused and Andrew Bogut healthy they are going to be good. They take on the Hawks tonight at the Bradley Center. Back to back games after being on the road are one of the joys of an NBA schedule.

You've got to feel for Billy Cundiff who missed the field goal yesterday that would have sent the Ravens into overtime with Patriots. What will be lost in that ending will be the failure to secure the ball two plays before that by Lee Evans as he had the winning touchdown stripped in the end zone. He had the ball but didnt secure it and complete the play. Now Tom Brady get's to play the Giants again and try to avenge the loss in the Super Bowl when David Tyree made the catch off his helmet and ended the patriots hopes for a perfect season.
