It was a beautiful day for UWGB womens basketball coach Matt Bollant yesterday. He enjoyed his breakfast over a copy of the New York Times that featured a long profile on his team. Yes... you read that right...the NEW YORK TIMES did a long profile on the UW-GREEN BAY WOMEN"S BASKETBALL TEAM during Super Bowl Week. Why? Well, the Phoenix have ripped off a 19-0 record so far this season and they have beaten a number of bigger schools from major conferences. And they've done it with players from the Upper Midwest including their best player, Julie Wojta who comes from a small town in NE Wisconsin. Wojta wasnt recruited by anyone and is now in the top ten in the all-time UWGB record book in points and rebounds. And speaking of Top Ten...the Phoenix also moved into the Top Ten of the Women's poll yesterday for the first time in school history. Not a bad way to start the week...and they get to enjoy it until they return to action Saturday when they host UW-Milwaukee.
The Bucks are playing well. They blasted Detroit last night 103-82 at the Bradley Center. Brandon Jennings led the Bucks with 21. The team shot over 50% from the field. So how are they replacing Bogut? Gooden, Ilyasova, Leuer and Brockman combined for 28 points.
The Badgers and Marquette are both in action tonight...Wisconsin travels to Penn State (6pm on WSAU)...while the Golden Eagles host Seton Hall.
Watched the first episode of the new HBO series "Luck" yesterday. It's heavy with horse racing jargon so it takes awhile to understand what they are talking about but the writing is great (from David Milch) and Michael Mann directed making it look great...and the casting looks fantastic...HBO shows are just a cut above the networks.
Songs Of The Day (from my I-pod)
If I Could Build My Whole World Around You-Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (1967) These two were fabulous together before her tragic death from a brain tumor. Add in the Funk Brothers backing and you've got a Motown masterpiece
If I Could Only Win Your Love-Emmy Lou Harris (1975) her first hit from the "Pieces Of The Sky" Lp is an old Louvin Brothers song done beautifully.
