The Wisconsin Woodchucks have become the Cardiac Kids of 2012...at least at home. In the friendly confines of Athletic Park they have 6 walkoff victories and they have accomplished that in four different ways...base hit, home run, wild pitch and last night's 5-4 win over La Crosse on a bases loaded walk. They are 9-1 in the second half of the Northwoods League season and in first place by two games over Madison. They are getting timely hitting from guys like Skyler Ewing, JD Davis and Madison Carter...decent pitching and if the defense can improve there is no reason why they cant win the second half title and make it to the Northwoods League playoffs which begin on August 13th. You also have alot of chances to see the Chucks in the remaining two weeks of July. They have 9 home games remaining in the month including tonight's game with Wisconsin Rapids. And, as always you can hear the games on Foxsports1390. I'll be in the booth with Jim Sannes for tonight's game.
Yovanni Gallardo had one of his good games yesterday as he struck out 14 in the win over Pittsburgh. Only Ben Sheets has struck out more in a Brewers uniform with an 18 K effort. Moose Haas also struck out 14 in the game back in the 70's. Rickie Weeks is hitting again, Martin Maldonado has been an excellent replacement for the injured Jon Lucroy and the Brewers face the teams they are chasing right now. They face the Cardinals starting tonight...Mike Fiers on the mound.
Speaking of Sheets...he returned to the majors yesterday and won for the Braves. He hadnt pitched in the majors in two years. Former Brewer Carlos Villeaneuva also picked up a win for Toronto.
Linsanity is leaving New York. Jeremy Lin signed an offer sheet with Houston (who is also pursuing Dwight Howard) and it looks like the Knicks wont be able to match because of salary cap implications.
The Bucks start Summer League play tonight in Las Vegas vs New Orleans. Time to see if young guys like Tobias HArris and LArry Sanders along with the Bucks rookies can actually play.
The Packers I'm sure were watching the Drew Brees negotiations very closely. Aaron Rodgers must be smiling after seeing what Brees went for. Just stay healthy and he will get a huge payday down the road.
Josie-Steely Dan (1977) from the classic Aja album...here is a 2006 live version which feature some tasty Walter Becker licks
Journey From Eden-Steve Miller Band (1972) much prefer the Blues-Rock from the earlier days than the pop slop that became hits in the mid-late 70s.
