The Woodchucks were in need of a starting pitcher on Wednsday night in their matchup with the Madison Mallards. They went with someone who knows the mound at Athletic park very well. Wausau West grad Adam Kramer got the start and pitched five scoreless innings giving up just two hits in a 1-0 rain shortened victory. Adam was a standout pitcher at West and also with our Wausau Legion Post 10 teams leading the pitching staff to back-to-back state championships in 2009 & 2010. He now pitches for Concordia-St. Paul and answered the call when the Woodchucks staff became short-handed. Obviously he has earned another start after the performance last night.
The Chucks are now 12-1 in the second half of the season and three games up on Madison. They play the mallards in Madison tonight...you can hear the game on Foxsports1390 at 6:45.
Don't read too much into Brewer closer Frankie Rodriguez' struggles yesterday in the 9th inning of Milwaukee's win over the Cardinals. He was pitching for the fourth straight day. He will be fine in a role that he is very familiar with. The Brewers are off today and start a weekend series in Cincy on Friday.
A big win for the RSW American Legion team on Wednesday night...beating Plover 5-4 in 13 innings. Plover is ranked first in the state and was unbeaten in the Valley Legion League heading into the game. Tonights action features Stevens Point at Wausau (Athletic Park at 7) and Marshfield at Merrill. The Regional for the area teams begins next week.
Former Eagle Bernie Leadon's birthday today...He's 65. Here are a couple of tunes featuring the multi-talented musician.
Train Leaves Here This Morning-Eagles (1972) Love this song...much prefer the Eagles early country-rock sound and Leadon was a huge part of that
My Man-Eagles (1974) Bernie's tribute to his former band-mate and friend Gram Parsons who died of a drug overdose
