The NFL has been a cash cow for quite some time. It draws big crowds, big ratings and is now a year round phenomenom. But not all is rosy. Commisoner Roger Goodell is being attacked from all sides. Former players have launched numerous lawsuits against the league for ignoring injuries and withholding information on the seriousness of concussions...Johnathon Vilma is suing the commish for accusing him of issuing bounties. This suit is important for the ramifications if Vilma wins. The power of the commisioner to punish hinges on this lawsuit.....and now the Players Association is suing the league in a Minnesota court accusing NFL owner so collusion. The suit says that the league instituted a secret salary cap for the 2010 season. It was supposed to be an uncapped season. The league responds by saying the allegations are unfounded and that the suit cant even be filed because of the new collective bargaining agreement. If that's true then the players lawyers screwed up royally in negotiating the new deal. Why would you negotiate away the power to sue to right past wrongs? The NFL is still king when it comes to fan base and money...but if the game is fundamentally changed by these lawsuits look for that to change. Most fans care as little about player health as past owners did. They just want the big hits every Sunday
Jon Lucroy should get serious consideration for the All-Star game this season. Will enough people outside of Milwaukee notice?
The NBA did the right thing by suspending Udonis Haslem and Dexter Pittman for their gutless actions in the game the other night. When you intentionally try to hurt someone you need to go. The question is...is the punishment to lenient? Will is stop this crap from happening going forward.
The high school spring season is wrapping up fast. Sectionals today in Track & girls Softball. The regular season winding down in baseball & soccer. Tennis and golf into finals week as well. I'll have the East-Rapids baseball game live today at 4:30 as the first half of our doubleheader on Foxsports1390. Hope the bad weather holds off.
Happy Birthday to Bob Dylan who turns 71 today...also Roseanne Cash is 57
Songs of The day (from my I-pod)
Jackie Blue-Ozark Mt Daredevils (1974) a big hit for this Missouri band. One of those songs you could not get out of your head...it was on the radio all the time. Nice guitar work.
Jackson Cage-Bruce Springsteen (1980) One of my favorite cuts from "The River". Saw the River tour in St. Paul. Fabulous show but then when isnt it?
