Let's Go Logging

Posted by Tom King on

The battle for the Wausau Log resumes tonight at Thom Field. The Wausau East Lumberjacks and Wausau West Warriors will play for the 43rd time. The Log was conceived as a fundraiser for the AFS Society which brought exchange students to the Wausau high schools back in the early 70's. When Wausau High split in to two pieces Ted Harenda and others thought it would be a good idea for the two schools to have a trophy to play for. The settled on a large chunk of Pine and clled it the Wausau Log. It has turned into a very spirited rivalry and always turns into a joyus rush to the north end zone where the log awaits the winner.

Wausau East currently has the Log as they won in overtime last year. West still leads the series 26-15 with one tie. The Lumberjacks have a chance to make the playoffs with a win tonight. West will have to settle for playing spoiler but taking the Log back to the West side is certainly enough motivation to make this another exciting Friday night at Thom Field.

I'll have all of the action live on Foxsports1390 WRIG at 6:45 as the first half of our football doubleheader. We will have DC Everest at Kaukauna as the nightcap. You can also check out the games as podcasts on our website Foxsports1390.com or wsau.com.
