Adrian Peterson is the sports story of the year. You can have your Lebron James and NHL lockout. Your Jerry Sandusky and Lance Armstrong. Your Mike Phelps and Gabby Douglas. For me the story of Peterson, who less than a year after shredding his knee came back to the NFL meatgrinder and is playing better than he ever has is incredible. We, in the sports broadcasting business use the word 'incredible' alot. Whether its a ceratin play or the play of a team winning a championship we use the word so much that its meaning can become (has become) cheapened. What Adrian Peterson is doing can safely be desribed as 'Incredible". Can the Packers stop him on Saturday night? I wouldnt put any money on it. The Pack has, over the years, put the clamps on some pretty good running backs...(the playoff shutdown of Barry Sanders springs to mind)...but Sanders was a runner who tried to make people miss...Peterson punishes woule be tacklers until they seem to lose their will to bring him down. The tackling of the Packer defense this past Sunday wasnt good...so why would we think that its going to be different this week. My key to beating the Vikings is not letting a mediocre quarterback and a set of underwhelming recievers beat you. Christan Ponder should not be allowed to throw a deep ball and there is no reason that any of these recievers should be able to get open deep. Stop that and Adrian Peteerson can do what he does "All Day" and the Packers should advance.
Other NFL Notes:
It really is something that three rookie quarterbacks have led their teams to the playoffs. Two of them square off on Sunday. Russell Wilson or Robert Griffin III? Should be entertaining.
Does it annoy anyone else that Sean Payton was able to parlay his suspension and involement in the "bounty" situation into a new, lucrative contract? Glad to see he was able to profit from a disgusting situation. (I said sarcastically.)
Greg Jennings is back to full strentgh and is playing well. The Packers probably wont re-sign him. Hmm...is there another team that needs serious help at wide receiver? How would Jennings look in purple?
The Badgers could not get it done yesterday. The in ability of Curt Phillips to throw the deep ball was a major problem. But...this team has a big and talented junior class...and there is no reason whay they cannot once again be in the Big Ten championship mix next year. Need to find some more recievers and Stave has to stay healthy.
The Brewers have quietly improved their bullpen this winter. The signings of Mike Grozalanny and Mike Gonzalez should help what was the biggest problem with last years squad.
The Bucks are back in action tonight hosting San Antonio at the Bradley Center. You can hear the game on Foxsports1390 & FM 93.9.
