The hype machine will go into overtime starting today as the brothers Harbaugh will prepare to meet up in the Super Bowl in New Orleans. It is pretty amazing that two brothers can be so successful that their teams will meet for an NFL championship but both earned it against good teams on Sunday. I've never been fan of the Ravens but they certainly earned their way by beating Belicek, Brady & the Pats. It should be a pretty good matchup.

First we have to endure the Pro Bowl this coming weekend. I was hearing the promos for the game yesterday and am surprised that a major corporation like McDonalds would sign on as a name sponsor for an event that is so universally loathed. I'll bet their not paying much for those commercials.

Hockey is back as the games got going and it seems that fans are quick to forgive. Ticket sales are soaring, merchandise is flying off the shelves and people are buzzing on social media. A short season should keep interest spiking and it will be interesting to see if the league shortens the season a bit going forward. I doubt it will happen even if it would make the regular season more meaningful.

The Bucks have won 5 out of seven under Jim Boylan, including taking 2-3 on the first West Coast swing of the year. They are now 20-17 on the year and host Philly on Tuesday. hey have some winnable games in the next week before another big matchup with Chicago on January 30th.

The baseball world said goodbye to Stan Musial and Earl Weaver over the weekend. I never saw Musial play but from old films you can tell he was as smooth a hitter as there as ever been...and he put up some big numbers for a long time. I saw Weaver manage and he was a beauty...always working the umpires...always looking for an advantage. He also had no use for small ball...relying on great pitching and three-run homers. It also helped to have guys like Brooks Robinson, Mark Belanger and Paul Blair playing defense.

Are you going to watch "The Following" on Fox? It looks good in the promos.

I'm interested in seeing a new documentary that debuted at Sundance this weekend. It's called "Twenty Feet From Stardom" and focuses on Merry Clayton, Tata Vega and Judith Hill. The three women were background vocalists for some of rock's biggest stars. You have heard them as they also appeared on record for dozens of artists. It will be relesed this summer. Of course it won't come here so I'll have to wait until it's on cable sometime next year.

Little Boxes-Malvina Reynolds (1962) a tune written by Reynolds but became a hit for her firend Pete Seeger in 1963. It looks at the stifling conformity of suburbia in the early 60's and was inspired by the houses of Daly City California. It recieved a revival as the theme for the Showtime program Weeds in the last ten years.

Little Darlin-Diamonds (1957) a doo-wop classic. This is the version that most folks know. the Diamonds were a white group from Canada that covered this song originally done by the Gladiolas featuring Maurice Williams. This is viewed as a better version...a cover better than the original
