Plenty will be learned tonight at Thom Field

by Chris Schulte

When Wausau West hosts D.C. Everest at 7 p.m. tonight at Thom Field in Wausau plenty will be learned about both teams.

First, is Wausau West, 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Valley Football Association North play, going to be a real contender in the conference race?

Second, can D.C. Everest, 1-2 and 0-1, play themselves back into conference contention by beating the Warriors? The Evergreens opened conference play last week with a 28-8 home loss to Appleton North, one of the conference favorites every season.

Even though it's ''only'' the fourth week of the season, an 0-2 start in conference play with five to play, including the likes of Kimberly, could put the Evergreens in a hole to deep to recover from if they have hopes of being a factor in the conference race.

Wausau West, meanwhile, is just a missed field goal from possibly being 3-0 overall and the Warriors were impressive in last week's conference-opening 37-0 win over perennial doormat Appleton West. West's lone loss was the 10-7 thriller at the hands of SPASH, which handled Everest 21-0 the opening week.

While this morning there are some looming questions, by the end of the night two huge ones should be answered.
