Turns out tech talk goes over most Americans’ heads. You've gotta be clear with your geek speak. In fact, according to a new survey, 11% of people think HTML is a sexually transmitted disease. Really? No kidding. (HTML is a web coding language.) More than three quarters of Americans don’t know what SEO stands for (search engine optimization). Almost 25% think an MP3 is a Star Wars robot (C3PO or R2D2. An MP3 is, of course, an audio file). How do people not know that? Close to 30% think a gigabyte, which is a unit of storage measurement, is a South American insect. Ya can't even make this stuff up. 15% of respondents think software refers to comfortable clothing, and 18% think Blu-ray is a marine animal. But the best part? More than 60% of people surveyed believe it’s important to have a strong understanding of technology in this day and age. Perhaps they should start with themselves?
