Baby Steps For The Bucks

by Tom King

There have been no wins so far for the Bucks summer league team in Las Vegas. They are o-4 after being blown out by the Spurs last night. They have one more game against Golden State before taking some time off. But the lack of success in the win column doesnt mean that the summer league experience has been a waste. Jabari Parker said that playing with some of the vets as shwon him how fast the pro game is and will prepare him for when the real games start. Giannis Antetekoumpo has been auditioning at point guard (at 6'11"!) and new coach Jason Kidd and his staff are getting a look at the young guys and also some free agents who may be able to help at some point this coming season. It's baby steps for a team and a bunch of guys who need to learn how to win after the past season from hell.

The Bucks also picked up free agent guard Jaryed Bayless. Bayless split time last year between Memphis and Boston. He gives the Bucks some depth at the shooting guard spot.

The 3 Brewers who started the All-Star game are confident that the team can get back to playing winning baseball as they begin the unofficial second half of the season. Aramis Ramirez said a team that plays well for 80 games won't become a bad team just because they hit a slump. He said its not a fluke that the team has the second best record in the National League. Jon Lucroy said its obvious that the team wasnt playing at the level they should lately and that"adversity is good for you". Carlos Gomez said that the win over the Cardinals last Sunday was big. The Brewers play on Friday at Washington.

Had a nice time yesterday at the celebration of the life of Sid Kyler. The event was held at the UU Church in Wausau and drew a large crowd. Sid and his music and art touched alot of folks over the years. Met up with alot of old friends including Bill Pickering and Kim Gunderson. Those two and I were classmates in Sunday school at that church when we were kids. It looks alot diffeernt now. You can help remember Sid's legacy by attending the Jazz Festival that he created which takes place next week at Bull Falls Brewery in Wausau. The event runs Friday and Saturday July 25-26.

The Legion baseball season is winding down fast. Wausau Post 10 plays at Wisconsin Rapids tonight at 7pm. We will also host the Regional Tournament which will start next Wednesday at Athletic Park..

Songs Of The Day (from my I-pod)

Night Riders Lament-Jerry Jeff Walker (1993) a nice contemporary Cowboy song that could have been written 100 years ago. It's been done by many including Garth Brooks and Nanci Griffith. Here's Jerry Jeff doing it live

The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down-The Band (1969) Joan Baez had her biggest hit with this tune but I prefer the original. No one can sing it like Levon Helm. Here is the performance from "The Last Waltz"
