Brewers Make Big Move...Probably

by Tom King

The reports hit social media yesterday afternoon. The Milwaukee Brewers have signed free agent pitcher Matt Garza to a four year deal worth around $52 million. Brewer fans were happy that the team improved their rotation and spent some money to do it...unfortunately the report was premature. The team said last night that talks were on-going but no deal was done. But lets say that it will be...and I think it will...it really is a stunning development. Doug Melvin kept this under the radar and it would be a great signing for the team less than a month before pitchers and catcher report. Garza is an unrestricted free agent and he wont cost the Brewers a draft pick...and he's the best avalable free agent pitcher left in the pool. He does come with some health concerns...missing time last year and making three trips to the DL since 2009. But if he stays healthy it will be a mjor upgrade to the rotation and helps to continue to convince me that the team can compete with St. Louis in the Central.

No fireworks or fisticuffs in the East-West hockey game...just a workman like performance by the Warriors in a 5-2 win to eatin the Kuehlman Cup. . They scored three power play goals and took advantage of some turnovers in the zone to break open a 2-2 2nd period. West is playing 4 days in a row as they face Superior tonight at Marathon Park and then head to green bay to play Fond duLac and Hartland Arrowhead this weekend. The Lumberjacks will take on Sun Prairie Saturday afternoon after the Cardinals play at DC Everest tonight.

I'll be in Stevens Point tonight as the Lumberjacks take on Spash in boys basketball..pre game at 7:15 on Foxsports Radio AM1390 & FM 93.9
