The Wisconsin Valley Fair is back at Marathon Park. I was out at the WSAU Fair tent on Tuesday and will be back out there today from noon-3. Stop by and pick up your football schedules for the year. You can also register for the Harley we are giving away. We will have it on display as well.
The Fair is one of those places that brings back memories from the sights, sounds and smells. It's a diverse group of humanity that makes its way down the midway...the tinny sounds of music coming from the rides and announcements over the loudspeakers...and the smell of fried food mixed with manure and sweat...there really is nothing quite like it.
I noticed a couple of new food items this year...a pulled pork sundae (a big glass with a layer of baked beans, cole slaw and pulled pork) and chocolate chip cookies with added ingrediants like bacon or jalepeno peppers. There is also a seafood shack offering crab cakes, shrimp po-boys and lobster rolls.
Today is the major league trade deadline and we await word that the Brewers have made some more moves. Unfortunatly Yovanni Gallardo was injured in yesterdays game and John Axford didnt pitch well for the second straight game limiting what the team might be able to get for both of them.
The Bucks make-over continues. A sign & Trade sends Brandon Jennings to the Pistons for three players (the most important is Brandon Knight who will take over the point guard role for the Bucks) They also signed their first round draft pick.
2 of the 3 State American Legion Baseball Tournaments get underway today. Plover will play in the AAA Tournament in Marinette. Their first game is against Madison at 4pm today. Nekoosa is in the A Tournament in Virouqua...they face Wisconsin Dells in a first round matchup
I saw my first in person triple play last night. Thunder Bay pulled it off against the Woodchucks. There were also 7 home runs hit in the game. I'll be in the booth tonight with Jim Sannes as the Chucks host Duluth on Foxsports AM1390 & FM 93.9 at 6:15
I'm going to be in the Twin Cities for the next couple of days. Going to hit the Twins-Royals game on Thursday (thanks Mary Kohl!) and also see my oldest son Wade (he will undoubtably take me to an adventuresome restaurant) .
Songs Of The Day (from my I-pod)
Man In The Mirror-Graham Nash (1971) From Nash's first solo LP "Songs For Beginners" featuring alot of his musical friends...a postcard from Laurel Canyon
Man In The Mirror/Below The Surface-Dan Fogelberg (1975) from Fogelbergs 3rd album "Captured Angel" . He plays alot of the instruments and lays on the harmonies. His mid -late 70's work is really solid
