Local Baseball Success At The Collegiate Level

by Tom King

A number of area baseball players are experiencing success at the college level. Wisconsin Rapids grad Jake Long has battled through injuries and was named the Horizon League Pitcher of The Year at UW-Milwaukee. Spash grads Bobby Gregorich, Kody McHugh, Brad Stroik & Ryan Williams along with Zach Wendorf of Merrill and Cody Hanke of Marathon are all part of the UWSP team that is playing in the NCAA D-3 World Series starting Friday at Fox Cities Stadium near Appleton.

Former Wausau West shortstop Seth McMullen completed an outstanding career at Winona State hitting .331 with 7 homers and 33 rbi's in his senior year. Wausau West grad Dylan Detert is part of the Madison College Wolfpack who earned a trip to the D-2 Junior College World Series in Enid Oklahoma this weekend.

The Kramer brothers, Adam & Jared both played for Concordia-St Paul after excelling at Wausau West. Adam will pitch for the Woodchucks this summer. Merrill native Pascal Paul will also be back with the Chucks at some point after having a good season in the bullpen at D-1 West Virginia. He won 3 games and had an ERA of 2.76.

East grad Ryan Zweck had a good spring down in Danville Illinois and earned a full season contract with the Woodchucks. West grad John Roberts pitched in 11 games at Iowa Western and only gave up 2 earned runs in 16 1/3 innings striking out 16..

.And UW-Superior featured three former West Warriors in Seth Wage, Dan Genrich and Mike Doescher. While Newman grad Luke Gajewski hit .250 and led UW-Oshkosh in stolen bases

I know I have missed some guys that are excelling at the college level and I apologize. Keep me updated on your progress at tom.king@mwcradio.com

Speaking of the Woodchucks, Opening Day is right around the corner. The Chucks will host the Green Bay Bullfrogs on Wednesday May 29th. I'll be in the booth with Jim Sannes for selected games this year including Opening night. You can hear all the games on Foxsports AM 1390 & FM 93.9.

Songs Of The Day  (from my I-pod)

Love Really Hurts Without You-Billy Ocean (1976) firsts heard this in London back in 1976 and thought it had a nice pop hook. Didnt like his later 80's stuff but this is pretty catchy

Love Reunited-Desert Rose Band(1987) Chris Hillman's tasty county band. Love those harmonies and tight playing
