Quarterback Roulette

by Tom King

It's been kinda hard to figure what the Packers have been trying to do with their quarterback situation this preseason. Aaron Rodgers took very few snaps in training camp as the coaches tried to find a viable back-up for their All-Pro starter. Graham Harrell struggled and was released. Vince Young was brought in and most observers thought he would be the guy. That turned out to be the wrong assumption as Young was released in the final cuts. That left BJ Coleman as the backup and GM Ted Thompson said at his press conference that they were satisfied that Coleman could come in a win a game if he had too. That turned out to be alot of smoke blowing for reporters as Coleman was released and 11 year  vet Seneca Wallace was inked to a deal. Wallace had announced his retirement last week.

Do you, as a Packer fan feel good about entering the season with a backup QB with no reps with the Packer offense in camp? Aaron Rodgers has had concussion problems and small nagging injuries and is just one hit from heading back to the sideline. I guess if that happens the Packer season is over anyway.

The Packers also signed former Badger Scott Tolzien to their practice squad. he was released by San Francisco last week. How much is this a PR move or the fact that Tolzien can help them in their preperations for the 49ers this Sunday..or whether they believe that Tolzien can actually make the regular roster at some point?

It's been weird summer. Here's hoping we wont have to find out if Wallace or Tolzien can still play.

Going into the weekend the Milwaukee Brewers have used 101 different lineups in 136 games. Not only that, they have used 8 different clean-up hitters. Aramis Ramirez (66), Jon Lucroy (34), Carlos Gomez (15) Rickie Weeks (11), Yuny Betancourt (5), Juan Francisco (3), Alex Gonzales (1) yikes and Khris Davis(1) That's incredible and it's no wonder that the team has struggled in the win-loss column.

The Marquette Golde Eagles have recieved a verbal commitment from a central Wisconsin 9th grader! Phillip Flory, who had a great summer on the tournament circuit, is going to be a freshman at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln. He is the youngest player ever offered a scholarship by Coach Buzz Williams. You'll be able to see him a gym near you this winter as he joins a group of younger players who are leaving their mark on the Wisconsin valley Conference.
