Roll The Dice

by Tom King

The NFL Draft is here. For football junkies the next three days is as close as they will get to heaven on earth as they watch the teams jockey for position to select the best college players to fill their rosters. There will be hits...there will be misses...and there will be surprises. You would think in this technology driven world there are no secrets anymore. But it's almost a sure thing that one team will think they more about a player than the others and roll the dice. Johnny Manziel may be that guy. The Texas A&M quarterback has scouts polarized about his chances of starring at the next level. Can Jacksonville pass on him at #3? I cant believe he'll fall like Aaron Rodgers did in his draft...there are too many teams that need quarterback help and some team will take the shot at him being a star. The Packers pick 21st and if they keep the pick they should be able to get a serviceable defensive player...safety, linebacker, DL, OL , WR in that order. Some things are for sure starting tonight...there will be surprises...Chris Berman and Mel Kiper will annoy you very quickly...and Jets & Giants fans will fill Radio City Music Hall's balcony and boo every pick their teams make. Let the fun begin.

The Milwaukee Brewers offense continued their struggle yesterday in a 3-2 loss to the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks. With Ryan Braun still out and Aramis Ramirez mired in the biggest slump of his career, the Brewers hit into four double plays and lost for the 6th time in the last 8. They have a day off today and play the Yankees starting Friday night. They will face Japanese sensation Mashiro Tanaka in the opener.

Braun is expected to return from the DL on Tuesday.

Don't forget...Wausau American Legion baseball Pancake Breakfast this Sunday from 8-noon at Bunkers (the former Legion clubhouse) on Wausau's northeast side. 8 bucks for all you can eat pancakes, sausages, juice, coffee and milk.

Songs of The Day (from the I-pod)

My Ride's Here-Warren Zevon (2002) title track from the album that came out just before he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Hits and misses although the first line of this song shows Zevon's skill with painting a lyrical picture.

My Rival-Steely Dan (1980) another skewed look at a love triangle from messers Becker & Fagen. From the Gaucho album which was the last before they broke up for years
