Tony's Blog 2/6: Madonna's halftime show Posted February 6, 2012 by Tony Waitekus

It's interesting looking at the comments about Madonna's halftime show. A lot of people liked it, a lot of people didn't. It was a big production, reminding me of something you'd see in Vegas (even though I've never been to Vegas). There was some contraversy with artist M. I. A. flipping the bird. That did not have to happen. I don't know what M. I. A. was trying to prove by doing that on national TV. There's the complaint about lip syncing. I don't buy that argument. All artists, major and minor, lip sync. Today's recordings are sometimes such complicated studio creations, that they can't be done live by a single artist on stage, partly because they were never done that way in the recording studio. But does that make it wrong? Look at it this way: Movies and TV shows are not done live, with few exceptions like American Idol and the news. One of the reasons for that is to do things over and over until it's done right. Who would you like to see perform on the half time show next year?
