EAU CLAIRE, Wis (WSAU) The Eau Claire fire department is cooling down plans for a giant bonfire to burn Brett Favre jerseys before this Monday's football game. A local restaurant owner came up with the idea as a charity fundraiser. 10-dollars would be given to charity for each Favre memorabilia item that was burned.
But the deputy fire chief says a large bonfire would be illegal. It would need a permit -- which the fire department won't issue because of safety concerns. The health department was also concerned about toxic smoke.
Instead the restaurant will get to symbolically burn one Favre jersey. The rest will be donated to Goodwill.
