Somerset Man Charged In MN For Providing Booze Before Fatal Crash

by

HUDSON, Wis. (WTAQ) - A Wisconsin man is charged in neighboring Minnesota with providing alcohol for his underage girlfriend, before she allegedly caused a fatal highway crash. 21-year-old Brandon Hedlund of Somerset is in jail in Hudson, waiting to be extradited across the border. Authorities said he bought vodka in Stillwater Minnesota last Thursday for a party with his girlfriend and others. The next morning, 18-year-old Alicia Haupert slid off a road near Stillwater and hit a utility pole. She and a friend had minor injuries, but another friend – 20-year-old Andrea Zimmerman of Stillwater – was killed.

Haupert is charged in Washington County Minnesota with criminal vehicular homicide. Officials said her blood alcohol level was nearly 0.11, over the Gopher State’s limit of 0.08. The crash knocked out power to over 50 homes for about 2 hours. Haupert told investigators the car slid on black ice and spun out of control.
