MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Milwaukee County board member Peggy West will go on a county-produced radio show on Sunday night, to explain her recent remark about Arizona not sharing a common border with Mexico.
West made national news after she got mixed up in her geography last week, while supporting a Milwaukee County boycott of businesses in Arizona because of that state’s new immigration law.
West said it would create a lot more tension if the illegal immigrant crackdown had been passed in Texas, because it shares a border with Mexico while Arizona does not. She was immediately corrected.
West admitted misspeaking, but has otherwise not commented on her gaffe – in which critics have accused her of ignorance. She’ll talk about it under questioning from the county government’s own communications director, Harold Mester, with no independent reporters on hand.
The county’s show is aired at 9 p.m. Sunday on WISN Radio in Milwaukee.
