Giants rookie Jones injured in serious car accident

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - New York Giants rookie safety Chad Jones was involved in a serious car accident in New Orleans on Friday, his agent said.

The 21-year-old Jones, New York's third-round draft pick earlier this year, was transported to the Interim LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans after the accident.

"The severity of Chad's injuries up to this point is unknown," Jones's agent, Rocky Arceneaux, said in a statement. "At this point, we are praying for Chad and ask that everyone does the same."

Jones helped Louisiana State University win a national championship in American football in 2007 and a baseball national championship in 2009.

A hospital spokeswoman referred calls to the LSU sports information director who was not available for comment.

New Orleans television station WWL-TV reported on its website (www.wwltv.com) that Jones was in critical condition with leg injuries and was undergoing emergency surgery after a single-car accident.
