MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Two men could be charged as early as Thursday for the murders of 4 people in Milwaukee last Friday. Police now say 21-year-old Desmond Laster and 23-year-old Anthony Barnes joined 19-year-old Brittney Robertson in robbing a house where she was staying. She apparently thought her roommate – 23-year-old Rachel Thompson – had a lot of money in the house, but police said she didn’t. As the robbery attempt took place, officers said Thompson and 2 of her young sons were killed. And their upper duplex was set on fire to cover up the slayings.
Police said Laster, Barnes, and Robertson then ran off with Thompson’s youngest son, 6-week-old Maurice Visor. Later on Friday, police said Robertson and the baby were missing – and officers feared for their safety. Police believe Barnes later shot Robertson because he and Laster got nervous after seeing her photo in the media as a missing person. The baby was dropped off in front of a church, and was later found unharmed.
Robertson used to have a relationship with the baby’s father, who’s in prison for violating terms of an extended supervision. The baby’s 2 brothers who were killed had a different father. There were earlier reports that a love triangle led to the slayings, but police now say it’s not true. Barnes was previously convicted of identity theft, vehicle theft, and attempted robbery. Laster has convictions for drug possession, reckless endangerment, criminal damage, fleeing an officer, and escape.
