PORTAGE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Columbia County authorities are looking for 2 drivers involved in the hit and run death of a woman near Portage. 47-year-old Shari Sampson died last Thursday night, after she was hit by a vehicle while either walking or lying down west of Portage on Highway 16.

It was not known whether she fell. A witness said an out of state driver saw Sampson on the road, and the car partially blocked the eastbound to try and get traffic to stop. Another car then came along and hit the first vehicle and then Sampson before it kept going.

Transmission fluid leaked from the second vehicle, and some plastic parts were damaged. Officials said the victim was apparently at a nearby tavern just before the incident, and she had one drink.
