WAUSAU, Wis. (WTAQ) - A Wausau area man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for causing a drunk driving crash that killed a motorcyclist. 23-year-old Matthew Vissers of Weston will also spend 10 years under extended supervision.
Authorities said Vissers was making the rounds at taverns to celebrate his birthday last June. And his blood alcohol level was over 3 times the legal limit when his pickup truck slammed into a motorcycle in Rothschild on Business Highway 51. The biker, 41-year-old Gregory Davis of Oshkosh, was killed.
Vissers pleaded no contest in March to homicide by drunk driving. Marathon County Circuit Judge Vincent Howard said 5 years was an appropriate sentence, considering that Vissers did not have a criminal background and was employed at the time of the crash. Vissers did have a non-criminal first-time OWI conviction.
