Kalamazoo, MI (Sports Network) - Eric Page caught a touchdown pass and returned a kickoff 98 yards for another score as the Toledo Rockets downed Western Michigan Broncs, 37-24, in a Mid-American Conference game at Waldo Stadium.
Austin Dantin was 11-of-18 through the air for the Rockets (2-1, 1-0 MAC) for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Kenny Stafford caught two balls for 84 yards and a touchdown for the Rockets, who were outgained 416-268 on the night.
Alex Carder set a Western Michigan school record by completing 43 of his 64 passes. He finished with 403 passing yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted four times. Three different Broncs receivers, Jordan White (13 catches), Juan Nunez (13) and Ansel Ponder (11) established new career highs for receptions.
Dantin got things started for Toledo when he hit Page with a nine-yard scoring pass five minutes into the game.
He followed up with a 73-yard throw to Stafford five minutes into the second frame and scored himself from two yards out to give Toledo a 21-0 lead with two minutes left in the first half.
The Broncs (1-2, 0-1) got on the board when Carder found White with a 16-yard pass a minute before halftime.
Ryan Casano's 24-yard field goal with eight minutes left in the third period extended Toledo's lead to 24-7.
Desmond Marrow added to the Rockets' lead when he returned an interception 15 yards for a score with 6:31 left in the period.
John Potter added a 36-yard field goal for the Broncs with just over a minute remaining in the third frame.
Carder brought the Broncs to within two touchdowns when he barreled in from five yards out a minute into the final period.
Antoin Scriven scored from a yard out with seven-and-a-half minutes left to make it a 31-24 game, but Page returned the ensuing kickoff 98 yards to extend Toledo's lead and seal the win.
In addition to the four interceptions, the Broncs also lost a pair of fumbles. Western Michigan ran 90 plays from scrimmage to Toledo's 59.
