STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) – Stevens Point and Portage County are both turning to the state for help with the recent flooding.
The city and county will both be asking their respective boards for a disaster declaration this afternoon. Mayor Andrew Halverson and County Executive Patty Dreier say their resources have been tapped to the limit dealing with washed out roads and flooded areas across the county. The move is the first step towards getting state assistance in combating the flooding.
City Council members look to pass that resolution at a special meeting at 5 pm. Both Halverson and Dreier will be meeting at 4:15 this afternoon to hold a press conference about the declaration.
