MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Cargill is recalling 36 million pounds of ground turkey that’s been linked to a salmonella outbreak that made three Wisconsinites sick.

The Minneapolis meat giant said Wednesday it’s recalling fresh and frozen ground turkey products made its plant in Springdale Arkansas from February 20th through Tuesday of this week.

Cargill says all production has been suspended at the plant until the company is able to nail down the source of the outbreak.

One person in California died, and 76 others in 26 states were sickened. That includes two adults and an infant living in Milwaukee, Dane, and Kenosha counties – although state health officials say just one of those people actually ate the ground turkey.

The others had the exact strain of salmonella that was linked to the food. All three have since recovered.

People who think they might have the turkey can get more information at Cargill’s Web site. Those who have the turkey at home are being told to return it to where they bought it – even if it’s been opened.
